The License Plate Was Right -- Vee's Story |

"Elegant." That's how a woman we met one night while walking in our neighborhood described the dog at the end of my leash. "She's really something special." The woman's words reminded me of how far Vee has come since the day in late September 2002 when a truck bearing the license plate, "SPSTAR" drove up our driveway, and dropped off a nearly two-year old Belgian Shepherd in need. A friend who knew we had a Belgian Shepherd called to seek our help in placing a dog coming up from the southern states. A few hours later, she arrived at our home. A pretty little Belgian scrambled out from a crate in the truck's bed, and within a few minutes, was romping in the dew covered grass, and had even met our other Belgian Shepherd, Jet. They play-bowed, she gave me a quick kiss, and the seal between us was made. If that sounds like a great beginning, it was. But, we soon faced serious behavior and health concerns. Vee had a name, but didn't respond readily to it. Her new life deserved a new one. Running through the alphabet soon after, her ears perked at the letter "V." It stuck. Just six weeks later, an adverse reaction to anesthesia nearly took Vee from us. The trauma created health problems and severe separation anxiety (something we still work on today). It hasn't been easy, but finding a responsible team to help Vee excel has been critical. : : next page : : |
