With buckshot in his side, and accompanied by five small puppies that looked just like him, Bubba J.
(for John-Boy) Boomer, a terrier-mix, made his way from a North Carolina
shelter to the CT Humane Society in Newington, and into our hearts in April 2004.
Like so many of the dogs that arrive at the CT Humane Society, little was known about Boomer, except that he'd gotten in the way of a shotgun somewhere in his travels
(hence, the buckshot), and that he'd fathered a litter of at least five puppies, who were delivered with him to the Newington shelter in April 2004.
Upon Boomer's arrival at the shelter, the staff knew Boomer's casual manner and "life's a party" attitude was a perfect match for our very serious, hardworking
female, Vee.
Yin and Yang, Mutt and Jeff, Peanut Butter and Jelly. Boomer and Vee.
They became best friends and constant companions. He taught her to play, she taught him obedience.
Together, they showed us life truly is more interesting when you have more than one dog!
Boomer's five puppies - Roxy, Pippin, Ben, Hoover and Indy - were quickly adopted, and began taking Puppy Kindergarten classes at the Newington shelter.
A few times, Boomer dropped in on a class, to see his pups and watch their progress.
Soon after, the Humane Society staff organized a family reunion of the
"Baby Boomer's."
The families and dogs got together for photos, fun, and to share stories of our dogs and their habits.
We found they were all very similar, despite their new lives and new owners!
